Order of Service / Order of Ceremony / Order of the Day
Orders of Service sheets provide guests with a programme of the ceremony if you are getting married in a church or other religious establishment. They can also be used for civil ceremony marriages but it is worthwhile checking with the minister beforehand because some are not happy with the title Order of Service used at a non religious venue. Under these circumstances you may choose to find a supplier who can provide Order of Ceremony or Order of the Day cards.
Order of the Day cards are becoming more common for use with Civil Ceremony because as well as detailing the running of the ceremony itself they can also outline the whole order of events throughout the day from drinks and canapes upon your guests arrival through to the evening entertatinments.
You should allow one Order of Service copy per guest or at least one per couple with perhaps a few extra copies for the clergy, choir and last minute guests. To reduce the costs of these extra copies your supplier may be able to overrun the printing of the insert sheets so that you have extra copies of the service without the outer cards.
Be sure to let your Vicar or Minister check the details of your Order of Service before you sign off your final proofs. If you are printing the full wording to any Hymns ensure that it matches the wording in the books of prayer at the religious establishment. There can be slight variations between hymn wordings depending on the source and publication.
Because of the amount of wording in an Order of Service it is best to allow plenty of time before your wedding before ordering these items. Most suppliers will insist on at least 6 weeks.
